At fifty five I consider myself to be in very good shape, but I don't think I could keep up with her. Zeppelin's "Battle of Evermore" is particularly riveting. Purchased this DVD recently and I must say that it is great. HOT. Kudos also to the band as they were all fine musicians and played the songs true to the originals. I just think it's so cool how she rocks out. At one point the band disappears and it is here that Nancy and Ann show that they really are and always were the heart (pun intended) of this group.
What can I say about Ann that hasn't been said. The concert starts out with "Crazy on You" and Nancy giving a big ol' Rockette style kick, and She never slows down from there. I went to YouTube and watched Zep in their prime perform this song and the Wilson sisters have them beat hands down (of course they have the advantage of having two fine vocalists to perform the parts where Plant and Sandy Denny played off each other in the original studio version). On "Barracuda" She weilds her guitar around like a sonic weapon, dropping and pointing it at the crowd and making extensive use of the whammy bar. But She really excels on the acoustic. Possibly the finest female Rock vocalist ever, She can still kick it as evidenced by this performance. If you enjoy Rock, and Heart in particular, I don't see how you could be disappointed with this fine performance.
If your a heart fan and you have blu ray. go ahead and get this, you won't be dissapointed.
Ann Wilson's vocals are sharp, crisp, and natural; her highs never falter, and from the first song of the show, Crazy On You, she shows off her impressive range and ability to perform even the most difficult-to-hit notes. From the glossy, glittery drum set as seen in the background to the finer nuances of the stitching in Ann's shirt, fine detail, both up front and in the rear of the stage, stands out as moderately strong.
With surprisingly fine covers of the classic Led Zepplin hits "Battle of Evermore" and "Black Dog", this long-time Led Zeppelin fan was more than pleased not only with the genuine effort Heart puts into these songs, but also the respect and esteem with which they seem to hold these songs. Although I am not a fan of Elton John per se, I have always enjoyed "Mona Lisas and Madhatters" and the ladies cover it admirably as well, although none of these would find their way into my iTunes rotation over the originals.
Heart combines elements of classic rock, alternative, and perhaps a touch of hard-hitting metal, from a feminine perspective. The show looks just fine for a presentation of this nature.
Despite several covers, the only material with which I was familiar on this disc, I cannot help but be somewhat impressed by Heart. No, they'll never be my favorite band, but their uptempo beat and high energy level, not to mention the crisp, lovely vocals of lead singer Ann and the impressive guitar playing of sister Nancy makes Heart: Alive in Seattle a fantastic disc for established fans and, at the price, worth buying for newcomers to the band.Blu-ray in a 1080i high definition presentation and framed at a 1.78:1 aspect ratio.
The sound quality is excellent, and is yet another concert from Image Entertainment that puts the viewer right in the midst of the show. Likewise, musical accompaniment, from the lightest strums of an acoustic guitar to the high powered notes flowing from a fast-paced electric guitar riff, emanate from the sound system with a palpable magic that often leaves you breathless and with the feeling that the performance is live in you media room, not pre-recorded on a disc.At the price Amazon is asking for the disc, the program is too good to pass up if you have any interest in the band.
Sound recording was also excellent. First of all, this recording of Heart concert was excellent. The blu-ray version is a 1080i resolution but the videos/picture quality is excellent. Heart performances was very good, especially there is a segment where they only played string instruments. A must have for Heart fans.
If you like Heart get it.So far this is the best produced Blu-ray concert I've seen, heard or owned.
